Vaccines

Rabies - rabies prevention is accomplished with vaccination and limiting exposure to wildlife. Vaccines are available for both dogs and cats and after the initial dose which is good for one year, subsequent doses are generally good for three years.

DHPP - This vaccine is given to puppies AND adult dogs to protect from Canine Distemper Virus, Adenovirus , Parvovirus and Parainfluenza viruses. We recommend all puppies should receive 2 - 3 boosters depending on their age and then we recommend 1 - 3 years for adult dogs.

Leptosporosis (4 serovars: Canicola, pomona, icterohemorrhagiae and grippotyphosa): Leptosporosis is very common on Long Island and transmitted to dogs, humans and other animals via contaminated urine from rodents, raccoons, foxes, and other wildlife. It usually causes severe kidney and/or liver failure and can be prevented with annual vaccination. Link

Bordetella - Also known as "Kennel cough" is an infectious bronchitis of dogs characterized by a harsh cough. It is recommended that any dog that frequents dog parks, groomers or kennels be vaccinated. We offer an oral vaccine that is good for 1 year. Here is a link to learn more about "kennel cough." Link

FVRCP - This vaccine protects against feline distemper (panleukopenia), calicivirus, and herpesvirus. These are common feline viruses and we recommend all kittens receive 2 - 3 boosters depending on their age. For adult cats, we recommend vaccination every 1 - 3 years or longer, depending on your cat’s lifestyle.

Lyme Vaccine - Lyme disease is transmitted to the dog via the deer tick and causes joint disease or recurrent lameness, kidney disease, and/or nervous system disease. Common clinical signs include lameness, lethargy, loss of appetite, and vomiting. We recommend monthly flea and tick control using Advantix as well as the Lyme vaccine for dogs that spend a lot of time outdoors and in wooded areas.

Fecal testing - This is very important and most people underestimate the importance of testing annually for gastrointestinal parasites that commonly affect our pets.

Microchip - We offer microchips from Homeagain. Their microchips are not only safe, but there are added benefits to help recover your pet if ever lost as well and resources available if your pet ever ingests toxic substances.

Annual Blood work and Urinalysis - Also important is yearly blood work and urinalysis. This helps test for any abnormalities in your pet's system, and also helps establish their regular, baseline values in order to monitor changes throughout their life.

4DX and Accuplex testing - These tests are for heartworm, Lyme disease and other tick borne diseases including Ehrlichia and Anaplasmosis.

FELV/FIV testing - This test allows us to screen cats to detect specific antibodies to Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) and Feline Leukemia (FELV) viruses in just a few minutes. This is especially important for kittens and outdoor/at risk cats.

Spay and Neutering Services - Patient surgeries are performed at our satellite hospitals by Dr. Andersen.

Sick Visits & Injury Care

It is especially important to us to make sure your pet receives the highest quality diagnostics, treatments and supportive care when they are ill and we do what we can to ensure these standards are met. We are able to diagnose and treat most illnesses in the comfort your own home.

Our diagnostic testing includes full blood work (CBC, chemistry panels, thyroid testing, urinalysis), SNAP testing, blood pressures, cultures, aspirates, biopsies, and many more. The majority of tests offered by a conventional veterinary hospital can now be taken in your home. If your pet needs x-rays we work closely with a local hospital to provide digital x-rays and interpretations by board-certified radiologists and in most cases can arrange transport for your pet to and from the hospital. We would all prefer to be treated in the comfort of our own home when we are sick, however if your pet requires intensive care, surgery and/or hospitalization we are also able to provide and arrange these services with affiliated, state-of-the art veterinary hospitals.

We specialize in helping pets with chronic skin issues, allergies, GI upset (vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia), limping/other orthopedic issues, ear infections, urinary problems (including urinary tract infections, bladder stones, incontinence), laceration repairs, liver or kidney issues, neurological issues (seizures, back problems), endocrine issues (thyroid problems, Addisons disease, Cushings disease, Diabetes) and many more.

End Of Life Services

The decision to euthanize a beloved pet is very difficult and we try our best to make this service as peaceful and compassionate as possible. We are able to provide in-home euthanasia services for very sick pets so that they can be surrounded by their family in the comfort of their own home.
